Massage is a natural therapy which has been utilised since the origins of mankind and remained the principal method of treating most musculoskeletal problems for many thousands of years.

Sports massage itself is based on Swedish massage, a technique that use the application of pressure to manipulate soft tissue, and involves the use of kneading movements, circular pressure of the hands and fingers, vibratory movements, brisk tapping, bending and stretching.

Sports massage incorporates all of these Swedish massage movements, together with additional intensive techniques that are specially designed to prevent and treat sports injuries.

Sports massage aims to improve the suppleness and flexibility of muscles and joints, improve blood circulation, speed of healing of damaged and stressed muscles, and helps prevent future muscle and tendon injuries.

A sports massage can be carried out before a sports event, when it will stimulate circulation and prepare the individual for optimal performance, whilst also helping to reduce the risk of injury. It can also be carried out after the event, which relieves muscle soreness and assists in the removal of lactic acid. Injuries suffered by sportsman do not differ from those in many other walks of life. If a muscle becomes strained it matters little whether it is the result of lifting heavy objects at work, digging in the garden or running a half marathon!!.

An appointment can last for over an hour, the first appointment will be longer as a consultation will be taken of your medical history to help the therapist ascertain what sort of treatment you will require. The massage is carried out whilst the client is lying on a massage couch, where upon the client will be asked to remove their outer clothing so that the therapist can work directly onto the skin.
